About the program

Junior college or community college is a college that is at a lower level than a university. The main purpose of this program is to provide academic and professional education. Junior College lasts for 2 years.

Diploma

The highest certificate offered by such schools is the Associate's degree. However, if students decide to transfer to a four-year college and continue their education, they are able to transfer some or all of the credits obtained at Junior colleges according to the requirements and criteria of four-year schools.

Transferring from 2-Year to 4-Year College

If students maintain good grades at Junior College, they have the opportunity to transfer to a university and earn a Bachelor's degree. Also, athletes have the opportunity to be seen by coaches from universities and to receive a sports scholarship for four-year studies. Some students decide to enroll in Junior College and after two years transfer to a university to save money.

Grading and tuition fees

  1. 1. The grading system is the same as in high schools and prep academies. (A-F)

  2. 2. Tuition fees at Junior Colleges are significantly lower than tuition fees at universities.

Benefits of attending JuCo

Enrolling in a Junior College is a common choice for athletes from Europe. This option does not have to be considered less favorable than a university at all; in fact, it has its benefits and is well-suited for certain types of preparation for continuing four-year studies.

  • Improving the English language skills

In addition to saving money, many Junior Colleges offer certificates and diplomas in specialized career-oriented fields, such as engineering technology, auto mechanics, or paralegal studies, which allow students to enter the workforce faster than would be the case at a four-year university.
